Medical Pouch and Tray Sealers

Manufacturers are under considerable pressure to improve processes, including packaging efficiency. Ideally, manufacturers want packaging lines configure for a larger number of different products with shorter runs. SencorpWhite’s CeraTek™ machines can help meet market demands while exceeding expectations.

The use of sterile trays and pouches for medical devices and implantable packaging is undergoing tremendous growth. Much of this growth can be attributed to pouch and tray strength, puncture resistance, and barrier protection. This will continue to position pouches as the container of choice for medium- to large-sized medical and dental devices and supplies.

Pouches are usually fabricated from two or more differing materials with a plastic, Tyvek®, foil, paper, or laminates of these materials, sealed to form a peel-open or tear-open package. New package material choices are continually being developed for this market including polyester/polyester combinations, foil, and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE).

Items such as cardiovascular implants are typically packed in breathable pouches made from Tyvek and polyethylene, all Tyvek, or nylon and Tyvek.

For larger and heavier items, trays can provide a stronger and more protective package. These trays could contain syringes, needles, catheters, stents, dressings, and wound care products. Trays are also used for surgical instruments and electromechanical devices, such as heart repair products, and orthopedic implants.

CeraTek pouch and tray sealers include “shuttle” style medical tray sealers, hot bar and impulse bar medical pouch sealers (with optional evacuation and gas flush capabilities), laboratory sealers for material testing, and “shuttle” style impulse sealers for blister packaging, as well as single station laboratory thermoformers. CeraTek sealers are fully validatable and calibratable, and CE and ISO-11607 compliant. SencorpWhite is unique in providing most CeraTek standard medical pouch and tray sealer models with sample IQ and OQ protocol documents.
