CeraPak Blister and Clamshell Sealers

CeraPak sealers are designed for a variety of package seals, including front face, fold-over card, and plastic-to-plastic. Purpose built turnkey sealing systems include fully automated product loading, collating, cartoning, and case packing.

SencorpWhite’s blister pack and clamshell sealers are known for their durability and repeatability. The CeraPak product line offers cost effective sealing capabilities for consumer packaged goods, medical device, and pharmaceutical applications.

The two primary components of a blister package are the cavity and the lid stock. The cavity is made of thermoformed plastic, while the lid can be paper, paperboard, plastic, or aluminum (usually an aluminum foil). In a typical sealing operating, heat and pressure activate an adhesive coated on the blister card. Blister packs can have push-through or peel-able lids.

Clamshell packaging consists of two pre-formed substrates, or one-hinged pre-form with two cavities. When sealed, this type of package is typically more tamper-proof than a blister pack. PVC and PET are currently the two most popular materials used in these packages. Clamshell packages can be secured via snap-fit, thermal or adhesive seal, mechanical fasteners, or sliding wrapper.

In the retail market, trends include lowering the cost of packaging materials, and the desire to automate as much of the process as possible and quickly changeover to accommodate shorter runs of each type of package, resulting in increased throughput.

For pharmaceutical, biologic, and medical applications, there are also U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards and qualification/validation requirements.
