Giving Back In 2014: Charitable And Community Partnerships

SencorpWhite Holiday GiviingAs 2014 comes to a close, I’ve been writing here about strategic partnerships and why they’re so important to SencorpWhite’s success. But some of the most important partnerships we’ve made this year haven’t been with other companies, and they didn’t result in new products. In fact, in many ways, the most impactful partnerships we’ve made have been because of our company’s commitment to get involved and give back within our local community.

Earlier this year, I dedicated a few blog posts to SencorpWhite’s award-winning high school student internship program. Today, I’d like to highlight another way we’re investing in our community’s future: through our involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands.

A short while ago, Big Brothers Big Sisters visited us onsite to see if our employees would be interested in becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister. One employee is now a Big Sister and visits a seven-year-old girl at school. I can’t possibly describe it any better than the story she shared with me:

“She is a great kid and we have a ton of fun talking and playing. I’m not there to be a disciplinarian or a substitute mother. My role is to be a friend to her.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a great organization to work with. They provide a lot of support and tools when you are first getting started. I was a little nervous at first but they provided information on what I, as a Big Sister, can expect and some examples of what a child who is my Little Sister’s age is probably feeling and how that might be expressed in her actions which was very helpful.

Thank YOU for making the opportunity available. I probably wouldn’t have done this on my own. I got involved only because you brought BBBS to SencorpWhite to talk about the program. So far, it’s been very rewarding for me and I expect it will only get better! Laughter and fun is a great stress reliever so not only is my Little Sister benefiting but I am as well!!!”

That’s just one story I’ve heard from our amazing employees about how they give back to the community. Throughout the year, our team has donated their time and efforts to a number of other causes in our community and across the globe. For example, we have:

  • Participated in quarterly blood drives for Cape Cod Hospital
  • Contributed multiple pounds of Halloween candy to Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops
  • Donated turkeys to Cape Cod families through an initiative sponsored by Independence House in Hyannis, which provides free and confidential services for victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children.
  • Provided full outfits for five children and one teenager through the Salvation Army Hyannis Corps’ Dress a Live Doll program (plus $200 in gift cards)
  • Volunteered time to help stock care packages for the troops

As a leader in the design and manufacturing of packaging machines and automated storage and retrieval systems, I’m proud of the excellent products and service SencorpWhite provides for our customers. But nothing makes me more grateful and proud than my employees who work so hard to make this company and our community the best they can be. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: It’s the people who make SencorpWhite great. As I look ahead to another year of growth and innovation, I’d like to say “thank you” –to our employees, our customers and all the readers here. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and best wishes for a safe, happy and successful New Year!
